Most people, at one point in their lives, have sent a postcard to someone they love. Usually, the message is about a trip or a destination, but Postcards from Ferguson asked people to use these cards – which contained images from Ferguson, Missouri, during the tense days after the killing of Michael Brown by police officer Darren Wilson on August 9, 2014 – to confront our own difficult and ongoing collective history around racism. Art and social justice organization Fine Acts commissioned these limited edition cards and gave them away at TED 2015. They provided a way to connect one another to our personal stories about the complex, often painful issue of race. Attendees were asked to write down messages of hope for racial justice and send them to families, friends, colleagues, or representatives.
